Is Kaiteriteri New Zealand’s Best Beach?

We’re up to summer’s half-way mark and the competition to find New Zealand’s Best Beach is on.

The response has been fantastic. We know that Kiwis love their beaches and want to protect them but we didn’t anticipate such incredible support. Thank you to all our voters and those who have signed up for our mailing list.

You might have watched the campaign launch on TV One at the end of 2012, spotted our ‘Best beach’ poster series on Facebook or Twitter:

…or heard locals from current runaway leader Kaiteriteri on NewsTalk ZB talking proudly about their current standing as the Best Beach in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The only complaint about our campaign so far is that every beach is special to someone in NZ; no one beach can possibly be the ‘best’. We agree with this too – while no one wants an oil spill on their own beach, we don’t want to see this happen anywhere along our coastline. New Zealand beaches all deserve protection against the risks of deep sea oil drilling.

Voters have until the end of February to decide which beach deserves top honours. Kaiteriteri is pretty special, we have to agree.

  1. Within brilliant Abel Tasman National Park, Kaiteriteri Beach is a popular summer destination, with some of the best sand and water conditions in New Zealand. The crystals of quartz and mica found in the sand make the beach literally glitter under your eyes.
