Civility

MPs hate each others’ guts. That’s what you’d think if you got all your political info from the papers or the TV. But there they all were this morning on Lambton Quay – MPs from several warring parties – having a friendly chat and a laugh. This reminded me yet again that all these MPs – as much as they like themselves portrayed as at each other’s throats – actually all tend to get on surprisingly well…

Anyway, this all happened because the fire alarms went off in Bowen House, in the Parliamentary Complex, at about 8.10am this morning, forcing MPs and their staff out of their offices. On a selfish level, this meant hopping down seventeen flights of stairs and then back up them twenty minutes later… Croak.
