Community-led development – good news from the grassroots! - by Catherine Delahunty
I had two very positive days last week meeting with community sector groups in Porirua and in Nelson. It was great to hear some positive stories from people who are leading change in these places, and to realise how much great work is going on despite the recession, the Government and the hard times since the earthquake. read moreMarch 21, 2011 2:10 pm - 3 Comments -
Legs - by frog
Nelson’s police force has taken up bicycling. Good on them, especially for this bit of ‘kiwi ingenuity’: The special lights and sirens can be ordered from the United States for about $US300 ($NZ520), but police had rigged their own up for about a 20th of the cost. Nelson goes Green - by frog
Spotted in Nelson this morning: Russel was also in Nelson this morning. Is that him under all that fur, taking a break from being the face of the campaign? It looks like his satchel to the left of the photo, but I suspect he’s more likely in the caravan having a cuppa tea. Meanwhile the [...] read moreOctober 30, 2008 3:27 pm - 8 Comments -

‘I stood there with my mouth open like an ape’ - by frog
Indeed you would. A senior council planner from the Nelson City council is being ‘dealt with internally‘, after he or she chose to cycle to a building site to inspect a resource consent application rather than drive. Apparently cycling was ‘not appropriate’. Interestingly the Nelson Mail article reports that the time wasting journey was probably [...] read moreJuly 3, 2008 10:50 am - 14 Comments -
Joyful Green reindeer on the run - by frog
You spot proud Greens in the most unusual circumstances. In this Nelson Mail story scooter riding Green Party member Joanna Plows appears gleefully to be outrunning some bikers on bigger engines. (Notice the badge). read moreDecember 4, 2007 10:54 am - 3 Comments
