Right wrong on the youth minimum wage - by Gareth Hughes

There is a renewed push from the political right to reintroduce youth rates for the minimum wage.  ACT’s Roger Douglas is trying to blame the Green Party sponsored legislation that removed the ability of Government to set a lower rate of minimum wage for young people for today’s high youth unemployment.  ACT’s new Leader, Don [...] read more

Space Oddity – the David Farrar version - by frog

This is ground control to Major Don, you’ve really made the grade And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare If I was a member of the ACT Board, I would be asking why are all these National Party members trying to take [...] read more

Greens’ concern over Parliamentary urgency gains widespread support - by frog

Last year, around the time the shameful Hobbit Bill was being rammed through Parliament in two days and without Select Committee scrutiny, Russel Norman posted here and here about his increasing concern over the National-led Government’s use of Parliamentary urgency to bypass normal Parliamentary process: The problem with urgency is that it often means that laws [...] read more

Privatisation is not a hit – not even at Kiwiblog - by frog

Even among those on the right who will dominate participation in Kiwiblog internet polls, there is no majority support for partial privatisation of the energy SOEs. A scientific 3 News Reid Research poll is showing public opposition to partial privatisation as high as 60%. Which makes sense really, because the idea is sheer economic lunacy. read more

    www.RedneckCoalition.co.nz - by frog

Seems someone has been having a bit of fun with the Koastal Koalition Klowns‘ billboards: And just to dispel a couple of bits of disinformation being promulgated by the rednecks and/or Nat apologists: The Koastal Koalition Klowns are being totally deceptive on this issue.  The foreshore is the bit of land that is sometimes wet [...] read more

Farrar’s fat fib on the foreshore - by frog

I missed this last week. The National Party’s blogmeister David Farrar posted a pack of lies in response to challenges to the Government’s foreshore and seabed legislation. read more

Horizontal becomes vertical in climate change debate - by frog

This is amusing. National Party blogmeister David Farrar called out Labour MP Charles Chauvel for this Red Alert post, in which Chauvel says: “My aunts’ home in Tahiti, 6m from the high tide line, is no less likely to be washed away by rising sea levels than it was last year.” The problem for Farrar is that Chauvel was obviously talking about 6m horizontally, not vertically! read more

An extraordinary blogroll consensus for drug law reform - by frog

This is really quite remarkable. Since the Law Commission released its discussion paper on drug law reform yesterday, an extraordinary consensus across the political blogging spectrum has developed. read more

Fran O’Sullivan on Tolley and on push-polling - by frog

David Clendon was his usual diplomatic self in his blog last Friday on Steven Joyce replacing Anne Tolley as Tertiary Education Minister. Fran O’Sullivan was far less tactful in the NZ Herald the next day though, opining that Tolley is clearly out of her depth. O’Sullivan also raised some concerns about the objective of a recent poll conducted on behalf of the National Party. read more

    Strange Bedfellows - by frog

Politics is a funny business, and can produce some very strange bedfellows. The Rob Gilchrist spying affair has highlighted a significant lack of oversight regarding police covert activities, and frankly, some very poor judgement. I have been asked a few times by commenters why I haven’t waded into the scandal. The  reason is that I [...] read more

Free publicity for Green candidates at Kiwiblog - by frog

It’s nice to see over at Kiwiblog that David Farrar is continuing to profile up and coming Green candidates, Kevin Hague, Craig Carson, Mikaere Curtis and Virginia Horrocks. I’m looking forward to seeing what other gestures of cross party cooperation he is going to share with his reading public. Luckily he has promised another post [...] read more
