John Key’s new Cabinet announced - by frog

Prime Minister John Key announced his new Cabinet this morning. The line-up is pretty predictable, but some of the portfolio allocations and rankings are interesting: The big winners are Steven Joyce and Hekia Parata, moving up 10 and 13 places respectively in the Cabinet ranking. Parata replaces Anne Tolley as Minister of Education. Paula Bennett’s [...] read more

Let the little leaks become a flood - by frog

Instead of engaging in a witch hunt to attempt to identify those responsible for Cabinet document leaks, the Government should be reviewing the Official Information Act, and its own practices under it, to ensure that information is publicly available as a matter of principle rather than kept secret to give the public the mushroom treatment for Government’s own political convenience. read more

Fitzsimons welcome but Douglas is not - by frog

Could it be that John Key would prefer Jeanette to have a seat at the cabinet table over Roger Douglas? It would appear so. Last year Key made it clear that Jeanette was welcome, saying “It’s possible. We don’t want to pre-judge those things yet.” On Sunday, Key told the Dom Post that Douglas’ decision [...] read more

Does the left hand have any idea what the right hand is doing? - by frog

Do Treasury and the Reserve Bank know that the Ministry for the Environment is talking about Peak Oil on this webpage?  So, to be accurate, it’s really the right hand that doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Now, should Cabinet get rid of the offending web page, or should it pay $50 dollars and [...] read more
