thanks for explaining what frog’s post was about Phil. Not being a Wellingtonian, I’m afraid that “trés silly satire, denigrate and ridicule rules” was meaningless to me on first reading.

what I want to know is how come some of the “wreckers and haters”™ who post on this blog attacking the Greens haven’t given us some kudos for being the only party to vote against the make fun of politicians laws.

    um..!..at the moment stuey..we are all..friends and w-h’s..

..trying to lift our jaws off the floor..

at the sight /sound/smell of that electoral reform bill..

Phil, not sure if you live in Wellington but I do and I frequently see the likes of Russel Norman on the good old Wellington trolley buses. I think it’s great for people to see our reps practicing what they preach and I think they generally all do us proud.

However, I think when MPs are off participating in Parliamentary business and a trip has been set up and coordinated by other people, I’m not sure I agree that our lot should make a huge fuss in order to ensure they don’t get too much ‘luxury’. I think if I were the organiser and had to make special arrangements to meet every MP’s need to be perceived to be choosing accommodation of the ‘appropriate’ fanciness I would find that very pretentious and frustrating. It’s good to take a stand where it matters - not taking perks of kick-backs and reducing personal climate change emissions and off-setting, but when it comes to insisting that provided accommodation is ‘backpacker’ not ‘hotel’ I think you’re setting yourself up for failure. Firstly, how low should you go? How about you just insist on being billeted with a family or staying at the local homeless shelter? Secondly, I think MPs can probably do a better job if they are allowed to get a good night’s sleep in a quiet bedroom and clear their emails in privacy.

    ruth..

my original suggestion/response was to nandors’ quote in the herald today that he was ‘a bit uncomfortable’ with both the business class flight..and the hilton..

and the argument could be made this unwarrented luxury is ‘very pretentious and frustrating’..

and..(sigh)..i did make the point that a ‘room in a backpackers..would do..

    not a communal bunk..

    excuse my language but wtf?
after 2 hours of a yellow screen with a “loading” logo on it i finally get to a list of clips including the one in question, which it claims it is “playing”, a blank black television screen in the top left corner which occasionally gives way to another “loading” logo & occasionally shows jon stewart sitting at his desk before reverting to black again.

    who is your isp providor..?..andrew..?

just as a cautionary tale for the rest of us..
