Condolences to the family of Dr Peter Lloyd, a committed and inspiring environmentalist from the Hawkes Bay who tragically collapsed while cycling to work on Monday morning. Here’s the obituary which appeared in Hawkes Bay Today yesterday, and here’s a profile of Dr Lloyd which appeared in August. He will be sadly missed.

I’ve thought long and hard about answering this… well not really, but I have given myself time to reflect on it. Death is always tricky and I’ve been to a few funerals lately and I must admit I dislike the glorification that goes on.
But I read this man eulogy and the article about his thoughts and can’t help thinking he would have loved a healthy debate in his honour. He had some fairly dire consequences in store for us and I appreciate that only because I read it. I’ve been struggling on in my own little shell for years now and it was good to be reminded of whats actually just around the corner for us all. I do my arworks to aid in this battle for recognition of the problems that face us all but the article reminded me that I have to make my pleas less subtle. I suppose its time for war cries. The war against …whats a good word? The first one I thought of was ignorance but that persupposes that I fight against stupid people.. but hey, Bush used terrorism… no I won’t stoop to his level. It’d have to be a good word that would describe an inability to recognise something. But recognise something that nobody really wants to recognise. Not because they are stupid but because they don’t want to be afraid. What would it be? The war on…?

So sad. Another thoughtful man is taken from us too early.
I remember hearing Linda Clrake interviewing Peter Lloyd last year on nine to noon and his humanity, as well as his knowledge, struck me.
My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

It was with much sadness I learned of the untimely death of Peter. I am a close friend of his brother Glyn. I learned of it whilst overseas.
Peter was a brilliant but down-to-earth person and I had many long interesting conversations with him.
My deep condolences to his family for their loss and the loss of his father Robin whom I was familiar with also.
