Those photos just have to be bumped down
Seeing them every time I bring up the blog is getting a little much. So, from something stomach-churning to something that could be really bad if it makes it into our stomachs, the issue of high-lysine corn, which was given a run in Parliament by Jeanette and Sue K a couple of months ago, is back in the public arena.
And since there’s an elephant in the room I had better acknowledge it by saying best of luck to Ian Ewen-Street with the National Party.

Personally I am very pleased pleased to see Ian join the Nats. I think there is a market for a Blue-green organisation within the National Party, and as was blooged a few weeks ago this is a very viable alternative to the watermelons that we currently have in parliament.
I have long maintained that the Greens do not and should not have a monopoly on environmental issues. The are planty of capitalists and people whose general politics are blue, but they have strong environmental concerns and the Green Party simply does not have the capacity to represent them.
A strong environmental policy which mixes business and environment will be a positive step forward for the country and economic growth. I look forward to developments and policy releases showing that there is an alternative to the instinctive ban / tax / prevent / stop / protest / fine / cry policy agenda of the watermelons that are currently in parliament.
I think the Blue green policy will reflect the constructive solutions but being able to successfuly mix and marry economic and business with enviromental priorities.
and in the process win more votes for a national government.

Blue Green can be OK (but I find it often needs to be checked for “Greenwash” in diguise.)
Personally I prefer Green Green and have few problems with Green Red.
Red Green can also be good …

Not sure I understand DPF’s comment - frog doesn’t say anything that Jeanette didn’t say. And frog by linking to Jeanette’s PR endorses it surely. And Jeanette was not particularly ingracious was she?

Having Jeanette rehash old caucus arguments (which are meant to be confidential) seemed a cheap shot. Frog merely wished well without feeling the need to tar.

In all the years I’ve been acquainted with Jeanette I have always witnessed her as honest, and “gracious” in her demeanor.
I believe that her press release showed both those qualities.

If anything Jeanette’s release was incredibly understated.
There are a lot of things that could be said about IES, but I was once told that if you had nothing nice to say, it was better to keep your mouth shut.
A lot of members I know were very glad to see the last of him in 05.

Funny thing : everywhere in the world where bluegreen “stock” is “floated”, it turns out to be junk bonds…
i.e. a right-wing ecologist party is pretty much a contradiction in terms (look up “tragedy of the commons”). Individual right wingers can have ecological concerns, but they are inevitably marginalized, because the real power will always follow the powerful lobbies which are the natural allies of right wing farmers, and which, by their very nature, can not be ecologized, because their profit model rests on mining of the environment in various ways (Fed Farmers, Business Round table)…
Even in NZ, the thing has been tried, and failed most abjectly… I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve forgotten (Salmon/Rainbow), they are eminently forgettable.
