Metiria on the Whangamata decision

Conservation Minister Chris Carter’s decision to decline resource consent for the controversial marina at Whangamata has been widely covered in the media in the last week or so, and widely debated. For the most part though, the coverage has lacked detail and has had a generally hysterical tone.

Metiria injected some perspective when she spoke in the General Debate in the House today on the issue of coastal protection in light of the Whangamata decision. You can hear her speech (0.9MB, 5′00″), as streamed (m3u) or download (mp3). You can also hear Jeanette interviewed on the coastal inquiry in the previous audioblog.
