World Bank and big business acknowledge climate change

More on climate change issues, and it seems even the World Bank is prepared to acknowledge what George W Bush and his administration are not - that climate change is a real threat. In a recent report, the World Bank urges that action needs to be taken to protect Pacific nations from increasingly frequent tropical cyclones caused by the problem. Pacific Magazine has a useful backgrounder.

Evidence that people are finally taking this threat seriously is abundant at the moment, as evidenced by this report. The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a group of investors concerned about greenhouse gas emissions who have just made their 4th annual request that public companies disclose their emissions levels and position on climate change. You can read more about the CDC here. It’s very encouraging to see the business community factoring greenhouse emissions into their priorities when they are considering investing.

Don’t forget about the Victoria University’s public panel discussion on “Climate Change and NZ’s Futureâ€? this afternoon from 3 to 4pm at Rutherford House, 23 Lambton Quay, and pencil in the Climate Change and Governance Conference, also at Victoria University, on March 28 - 29.
