Full power, but…

How’s this for having it both ways? The Waikato Times’ editorial today summerises its argument:

Full power to the protesters, they are playing a key role in keeping pressure on the whalers. But if one of their workers is killed or maimed, it won’t do any good bleating to the world. The Japanese have a right to be there and Greenpeace should be mindful of that. No PR spin can change that.

Um, surely if the protesters had “full power”, the Japanese wouldn’t have “the right to be there”.

And “bleat” is an interesting term, not dissimilar in this context to “protest”. So the protesters shouldn’t bleat. Or should that be, the bleaters shouldn’t protest?

I suspect that whaling is one of those issues where *mainstream* NZers find it easy to agree with those damn greenies, but dare not actually like or respect them. After all, those Greenpeace types might be holding New Zealand to account next time.

(Yeah, yeah, I know, I’m going on about whaling, but its such a rich vein for discussion ;)).
