Slowing down for Easter
Some people just can’t get enough profit. That’s self-evident, but what makes it infuriating is that this “can’t get enough-ness” means many families just don’t get to spend any time together. Why? Because, during the periods their kids are off school (Easter, Christmas, etc), many parents are required to work, often because of tacit pressure from their bosses.
It’s very sad indeed to see that over a hundred businesses throughout New Zealand are being investigated for flouting Easter trading laws.
As Newstalk ZB reports:
Green Party small business spokesman Mike Ward says people should enjoy the break because there are only a few days during the year when the community can take a rest.
He acknowledges there are sectors which require people to work on public holidays, but says retailing is not one of them.
Mr Ward says the world would not fall apart if people took a few days off a year from shopping.
