This Sunday was definitely the biggest Big Gay Out I have attended, with some news reports estimating crowds of 15,000 people.
The event is one of the highlights of the LGBTI calendar with a really positive and welcoming environment.
I spent most of the day wandering around, not getting sunburnt, talking with what seemed like a good proportion of those 15,000 people. After such a Big Gay Out I needed a quiet night in to get my voice back.
The Green Party stall was flat out the whole day. We were giving out our Greens marriage equality badges which were so popular that even other Parties’ politicians were sporting them by the end of the day. It was a great illustration to me of how we are working together across the political spectrum to achieve marriage equality.
Addressing the crowds, Metiria Turei and I felt the huge excitement and positively about 2013, as the year that we will see marriage equality in New Zealand.
