Greens mourn Matthew Wootton’s disappearance

Green MPs and staff are mourning the disappearance of Matthew Wootton – a UK Green Party activist who was aboard the Nina schooner with six others who have not been seen since May 29, 2013. The Nina left Opua in the Bay of Islands bound for Newcastle, Australia, and is now believed to have been lost in a storm.

matt woottonMatthew was generous with his holiday time, hosting a recent day-long seminar with Green staff while he was in New Zealand. He lived an exemplary life sharing his expertise and ideals with us – everything he’d learned from successful Green campaigns in the UK. We’re stronger for his gift.

As time goes by, it’s looking like New Zealand was the last stop for Matthew on his round-the-world adventure. Naturally, our sympathies are with Matthew’s family, friends, and Green colleagues back home. We hope alongside them too.

The New Zealand coastguard continues to look for the Nina.

Moe Mai, Matthew Wootton
