Kiwi girls:
- are more afraid of becoming fat than they are of nuclear war, cancer or losing their parents.
- who severely diet are 18 time more likely to develop an eating disorder.
- are likely to think they’re fat when they’re not. Only 15 per cent of 15 year olds are overweight, yet 68 % want to lose weight
- who get an eating disorder are more likely to die of it than any other psychiatric illness.
Despite Health Ministry recommendations for more services, one of Auckland’s only specialist counselling services, EDEN, will close today.
EDEN is a non-profit community agency based in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. They have been New Zealand’s eating issues and body image specialists since 1990.

THis is a failure of schooling, not counsellor subsidies!
If we concentrated on teaching and demanding moral socially acceptable behaviour alongside the three Rs we’d have a totally better society today.
