Submissions are now open on my Lobbying Disclosure Bill. Details on how to make a submission are available on the parliament website.
The Bill passed its first reading in parliament with unanimous support from all parties and is now before the Government Administration Select Committee.
The Bill aims to bring a measure of transparency to lobbying activity, as well as enhance trust in the integrity of Parliament and political decision-making.
It seeks to do this by:
. establishing a Register of Lobbyists
. empowering the Auditor-General to develop a code of ethics for lobbyists
You can find more out about the Bill and the work that we’ve been doing on this issue here. We’ve also just made a quick video of me on why we need lobbying transparency and what’s next with my bill.
You’ve got until Friday 5th of October to get your submission in. I encourage everyone to have their say on this important issue.

@ Zedd
We’ll never stop ‘Big Money’ acquiring access to politicians but at least this bill will ensure that their efforts will be in the open.
@ Holly
Well done. If Chauvel’s amendment can be neutralised, your efforts will result in a great victory for transparency in government.

This also seems odd given that many unions actually have voting rights within the party (and candidates in the party), which is a fairly direct form of “lobbying” that wouldn’t need to be disclosed under the proposed law.
