(could someone tell john key that the ayn rand he worships/follows was a raging speed-freak..
..and that her outpourings from ‘the fountainhead’ onwards..
..(that he also ‘follows’..)

..she was a speed-freak for 30 plus years…

“..Ayn Rand:..Substance of choice: Amphetamines
Relevant musings: “Is there any doubt that drug addiction is an escape from an unbearable inner state, from a reality one cannot deal with, from an atrophying mind one can never fully destroy?”
While she was writing The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand’s doctor prescribed the amphetamine Benzedrine as an anti-fatigue drug.
From then on, she took amphetamines — branching out into Dexedrine and Dexamyl — at least once a day for 30-odd years, claiming sometimes that they were for weight control.
Many close to her blamed the drugs for her erratic moods, entreating her to stop, but perhaps unsurprisingly, that didn’t seem to faze her much…”
..of course the other thing about rand that her followers conveniently ignore..
..is that after all that raging about the ‘leeches’ who accept welfare/state aid..
..she did just that..big-time..

Jackal impersonators
A while ago I had a bit of trouble with a right-winger using my email address to steal the Jackal handle, and writing crap on left blogs in an attempt to discredit me. Thanks to quick acting moderators, this wasn’t much of an issue.
However another right wing impersonator has now started to comment on Kiwibog using the Jackal handle. This is obviously not the original Jackal, as I’ve been banned from commenting at Kiwibog.
As is to be expected, Farrar hasn’t bothered to moderate the identity theft. In fact it’s likely he’s had to specifically remove the jackal handle from the systems banned list to allow comments to be made by the impersonator…

It’s just a another day on the calendar … based on how we see the world and our place on it.
In 1892 Samoa had two days of the same date in a row.
In 2011 they skipped over a Friday and went from a Thursday to a Saturday, so they could return to the same day time zone of Oz and New Zealand.
This apparently has caused problems for the Samoan Seventh Day Adventists.
They want to continue to observe the sabbath every seventh day/date of the month they have been observing since 1892 in common with Jews in America, Europe and the Middle East (whereas Samoans migrating to New Zealand have been observing the same sabbath day as others such as Jews do in this part of the world).
This has meant Samoans in New Zealand and Samoa have been observing their sabbath day on the same day of the month, but 24 hours apart.

PS That has meant Samoan Seventh Day Adventists had been observing their day on our Sunday since 1892 but now will be observing their Seventh Day on the new Samoan Sunday.
The sabbath day of rest is defined as the period of time from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset.

why has our mainstream media not mentioned that bainimarama has just introduced a raft of tax-reforms..
..what could be loosly termed as occupy-taxes..
..cutting all taxes for the poorest..
..and cutting business-taxes..
..and targeting the 1%…
(see first two stories in this link..
http://whoar.co.nz/?s=bainimarama )
(this is bainimarama speaking..)
“…The “99 percent” have called and we have heard them…
Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, Fiji — the hub of international trade in the South Pacific – will reduce or eliminate taxes on 99 percent of taxpayers –
- and cut taxes across-the-board for businesses.
As a small nation historically swayed by larger economies, such as the United States and Australia, the time has come — amidst uncertain global markets — to fundamentally restructure our economy as a way to put money back into the pockets of our citizens –
- and improve the climate for domestic and international business.
Critical components of our new economic policy are incentives to grow small businesses – which currently only make up about 10 percent of our economy – renewed investments in education and an emphasis on personal responsibility.
Poor and middle class Fijians have shouldered most of the tax burden for too long.
So to achieve a fair and balanced tax system, Fiji is also temporarily instituting a “Social Responsibility Levy” — to be applied progressively to anyone earning over $270,000 a year.
This levy will apply to the top 1 percent..”
..why is our mainstream media not mentioning these radical changes..?
..changes..many would argue..that need to be instigated here..
..but changes of course that threaten the interests of the 1% elite..
..who also are the ones who own/control that mainstreammedia..
..this is just the latest example of one of the main reasons i started whoar..
..how our mainstream media serves so ill the needs/interests of the people..
..it has always been this way..

I made a response to todays Herald editorial
Typically you argue the case for the 1% against the 99%.
That for the sake of the global economy of the 1% those with capital have to be reassured about the fiscal management of national debts. That the people of the European Union have to make sacrifices so the economic system works for those with capital.
This is the somewhat similar to the thinking during the Great depression – if governments cut their spending and if wages were reduced, if only there was more fiscal responsibility and people made enough sacrifices then things would go back to normal.
The thing is, fiscal responsibility does not solve the problem. It only means continuing recession and continuing recession means continuing deficits.
The error was establishing a Euro without common debt financing for the national debts of the member countries. Some member countries cannot afford the now higher rates of national debt finance on their historic debt – no amount of tighter fiscal management now resolves that. And nor will fiscal responsibility of itself change the underlying problem. With a common currency zone the strong get stronger and the weak get weaker – and this is destructive to those nations.
(this part was beyond the word limit)
The only answer that saves the Euro is the European Central Bank taking over the debts of the national economies – and finacing this debt at a common debnt rate. This will reduce the deficits (debt financing costs) of weaker nations and redcue their need to conmtinue to borrow. It of course means higher debt finance costs for Germany and France and other stronger economies – it all supposes that they support a Euro that is good for all of Europe or just one that delivers a cheaper currency and borrowing cost for themselves at the expense of others in the south and east.

http://whoar.co.nz/2012/naomi-wolf-how-congress-has-signed-its-own-arrest-warrants-in-the-ndaa-citizen-arrest-act/
“…I never thought I would have to write this: but—incredibly—Congress has now passed the National Defense Appropriations Act, with Amendment 1031 -
- which allows for the military detention of American citizens.
The amendment is so loosely worded that any American citizen could be held without due process.
The language of this bill can be read to assure Americans that they can challenge their detention — but most people do not realize what this means: -
- at Guantanamo and in other military prisons, one’s lawyer’s calls are monitored – witnesses for one’s defense are not allowed to testify – and one can be forced into nudity and isolation.
Incredibly, ninety-three Senators voted to support this bill -
- and now most of Congress: a roster of names that will live in infamy in the history of our nation -
- and never be expunged from the dark column of the history books.
They may have supported this bill because—although it’s hard to believe—they think the military will only arrest active members of Al Qaida; -
- or maybe, less naively, they believe that ‘at most’, low-level dissenting figures, activists, or troublesome protesters might be subjected to military arrest.
But they are forgetting something critical: history shows that those who signed this bill will soon be subject to arrest themselves.
Our leaders appear to be supporting this bill thinking that they will always be what they are now -
- in the fading light of a once-great democracy —
- those civilian leaders who safely and securely sit in freedom and DIRECT the military.
In inhabiting this bubble, which their own actions are about to destroy – they are cocooned by an arrogance of power -
- placing their own security in jeopardy by their own hands – and ignoring history and its inevitable laws.
The moment this bill becomes law, though Congress is accustomed, in a weak democracy, to being the ones who direct and control the military – the power roles will reverse: -
- Congress will no longer be directing and in charge of the military:-
- rather, the military will be directing and in charge of individual Congressional leaders – as well as in charge of everyone else —
- as any Parliamentarian in any society who handed this power over to the military can attest.
Perhaps Congress assumes that it will always only be ‘they’ who are targeted for arrest and military detention: -
- but sadly, Parliamentary leaders are the first to face pressure, threats, arrest and even violence when the military obtains to power to make civilian arrests and hold civilians in military facilities without due process.
There is no exception to this rule.
Just as I traveled the country four years ago warning against the introduction of torture and secret prisons –
- and confidently offering a hundred thousand dollar reward to anyone who could name a nation that allowed torture of the ‘other’ that did not eventually turn this abuse on its own citizens —
- (confident because I knew there was no such place) —
- so today I warn that one cannot name a nation that gave the military the power to make civilian arrests – and hold citizens in military detention -
- that did not almost at once turn that power almost against members of that nation’s own political ruling class.
This makes sense — the obverse sense of a democracy, in which power protects you; -
- political power endangers you in a militarized police state: -
- the more powerful a political leader is, the more can be gained in a militarized police state by pressuring, threatening or even arresting him or her…”

No surprise there at all.
The US have been building detention camps now for a number of years, and this is part of a continuing saga of legislation, executive orders, and actions, dating back to the sixties, to manage expected problems within the American citizen population.
The reasons why the powers that be might want to detain a lot of citizens have changed over the years, going way back to the dark days of McCarthyism, but of realtively recent times, the need to detain Americans en-masse has always been accepted as part of America’s response to Peak Oil by the Peak Oil aware; when the citizens realise their collective gooses are cooked, they wont be pleased, and, being Americans, are expected to get physical about it.
This is one of the reasons why America has been devleoping large scale non-lethal weapon technology; mass croud control.
Yes Sir, Land of the Free.

Eventually, somewhere, a single issue party based on “cancelling” debt is going to rise, and being how most of these places with excessive debt are parlimentary democracies, they will get elected. This party need not be equipped with clever people with the answer, just everyday folk who have had enough and want to yell “stop”.
Then its going to get interesting.
As someone noted already: having a single currency and different interest rates is non-tenable, and something has to give.

dbuckley, there is a precedent for cancelling national debt – this was given in varying forms to developing countries that were lent money by banks (they were on-lending money deposited by the oil exporters after the 70′s price rise) on a presumption that countries would be a good debt risk.
However I doubt this will happen – some nations like Argentina (got into trouble by linking their currency to the American dollar – similar to weaker European national economies linked to the stronger economies within the Euro) have defaulted but here there is an ECB that can act.
If the ECB first takes over national debt and funds it at a common interest rate and then looks at transformational arrangment (a Bretton Woods for the European Union Euro zone and possibly national economies around the world in general).
That would involve the ECB (natyional reserve banks) issuing credit to both cover a portion of countries budget defcits and also re-capitalise banks to float the boat of the world economy out of this recession (effectivley on the one hand inflate out of the debt crisis on the one hand and reduce dependence on private capital to finance national budget deficits on the other).

SPC – yes, agree. But I don’t see that a sensible ECB led solution being on the cards, heck I dont even see universal support for such a thing within the Eurozone; all I see is one part of the Eurozone shouting “Austerity” to other parts of the Eurozone, and the recipients aren’t liking it much.
The previous debt cancellation was one that was granted by the lenders. I’m talking about one that is a fait acompli by the debtor.

USA vs Iran
Iran holds the fourth largest oil reserves in the world, while the US, (the worlds largest consumer) has approximately 1.4% of the worlds oil reserves. With the oil barons still in power, their solution is to promote wars for oil. They can only do this by praying upon people’s fears… and the best way to do that is to demonize those countries that have the resources they covet…

- did some of those super rich start at the bottom ?
- how hard do they work for their money ?
- how much risk did they take to get there ?
- are the more or less educated than the average worker ?
- how many jobs do they provide becuase they own sucessful companies ?
- how much tax do they pay compared to the average workers ?
- how many support charities ?
- how many people (family members) do they support with their wealth ?
- how much money do they spend in the economy ?
In regards to the lowest earners, do they include people who only work part time, or are unemployed ? as this would unfairly lower the average to make the disparity look worse.
What method would you propose to re-distribute the wealth \ money that others had made in order to give it to lower income people ?, taxes ? communism ?

Phil you are not just arrogant, but seem to have shades of communism as well. Many of those ideas you propose would not only target the large coporations you hate so much, but would also affect the struggling small business owners.
In addition to this you are creating less of an incentive for people to achieve and earn more.
Mabye the real answer to the poverty problem is people who cant afford to have kids, drink booze and smoke ciggies, is to not have kids and expect the state to pay for it. Then mabey we could have some $$$ in the coffers for government funded training to upskill workers (who want more in life) and get them better jobs with better pay.
I dont think punitive taxing of the sucessful people who worked hard to get where they are is the answer.

“… With thick glasses, just-so-avant-garde fashion and knowing smirks, Hipsters have had a special place on TV since the beginning of the medium –

For more than half a century, TV Hipsters have had a profound effect on American culture.
These characters taught many of us the importance of oddball tastes, wardrobe thrifting and (perhaps more importantly) -

I must say you have an interesting mind phil, mabey its the lack of iron from meat in your diet
seriously though If thats how you articulate and its not deliberate and you feel more comfortable writing poetic then more power to you. Just makes its hard (and annoying to read) thats all.
PS: I absolutly love bacon and eyefillet, but hey if you choose to go against the canine teeth in your mouth and the enzymes in your body that are there to digest meat and still feel healthy, again more power to you.
My will to not eat meat is to strong, im a lost cause.
Oh and one last thing

i’ve given you an up-tick there..nzwhatever…
(..’cos i wd probably get annoyed at me..eh..?..)
..especially if i was an animal-eating green..
..who is rather precious/proud of how they are/how long they have been..so ‘green’..
..it must be disconcerting to say the least to have that smugness/those certainties challenged/questioned in such a forthright-manner…
..it must kinda shake them to their core..
..and that is a good thing..
..that core-shaking…

“..Many of those ideas you propose would not only target the large coporations you hate so much..”
i don’t ‘hate’ them…
..i just want them to pay their fair share…
..currently they don’t..(but you support that..?..must be a beneficiary of it..eh.?..)
“… but would also affect the struggling small business owners..”
um..!..no..were they ‘struggling’..they would be paying less tax than now..
..and any worthwhile schema must also provide opportunities/breaks for start-ups etc..
..(and you are so retro-cool…!..calling me a ‘commie’…
..brilliant..!..)
btw..didn’tyaknow the young ones are going for socialiam..(wot u might call ‘communism..)..over capitalism..?
..here ya go..!

Well Phil to be honest im not even on 100K+ a year, but I believe the the top earners do pay their fair share.
Typically due to the way percentages work these rich people end up paying in tax 3,4,5 times more than a person on a low income would.
Yet these 2 people live in the same country, use the same services and in some cases the poorer person is provided with more services (paid for by the richer persons tax take).
Those rich people tend to build business that provide jobs, and inject money into the economy becuase these RICH people fronted up THEIR OWN MONEY and took risk upon themseleve to better their position in life.
So dont bleat on about fair share.
BTW, I dont support dodging of taxes, and this I believe is where we need to target our attention to make sure the full fair share is paid.
Im sure we can at least agree that those that are rich and pay their taxes are not the ones we need to target.
As for staying power, ive just been through a 1 year disputes tribunal and appeal, a cake walk, dont under estimate me old man.

oh Phillip, flexing the thesaurus gland again I see
I may be inexperienced and immature (callow youth) at 35 years old compared to your 61 years, but again you have skirted around my fair share comments which seem quite valid and logical.
— If someone earns a high salary (rich) and pays all their taxes under law (no dodging) and those taxes are 2,3,4 times as much $$ value than someone on a lower wage. Are they not paying a fair share considering they use the same or less services compared to people on lower incomes —
If not WHY ? and what gives anyone any right to take more from this person simply because they earn more by choosing to work hard and pick a good career path and make good decisions ?.
I also revoke your right to spell check my posts. Its deliberate, tiring and highly annoying, a bit like your existance.

What is a “fair share” in terms of paying tax anyway?

aah..!..an x-er/t.i.n.a..!
that helps explain the simplistic-drivel/shallow-economic-thinking..
..(that is seriously..too boring/101 to bother challenging/dismantling..eh..?
..i hafta say..that as a foil..you have underwhelmed..eh..?)
..an unfortunate/blighted generation…those x-ers/t.i.n.a.-ers
..unlike the old ones who know it can be different..
..and unlike the young ones who see clearly how bankrupt the system is..
..and are also thirsting for that change…
..those unfortunats x-ers are trapped in the mores/beliefs of that blighted era…
..they were suckled/brainwashed on that bankrupt/neo-lib/ayn rand/individualistic/self-interest/greed/fuck-everyone-else-driven bullshit…
..and know/can see no different…eh..?
..they deserve our sympathy…
..but they also need educating…
..to be shown that yes..there is more than one way to do things..
..there actually are alternatives..

I gather you are a washed up unemployed broadcaster who thinks that running a 2nd rate wordpress blog constitutes a real job and hyped up postion title. I note Whoar..whatever has lots of advertisers on the homepage LOL. Im a Web Developer and trust me that site is rubbish along with 99% of the content if anyone could be assed reading it.
I suspect that you sit behind your computer screen to much and have lost the ability to interact with real human beings and you make up for this lack of social skill by coming up with an online persona that attempts to say
- “hey look at me im better than you because I write like poet.”
- “im not going to answer your argument because mine is better and yours is simplistic”
- “im a green vegan, therefore im morally superior to you”
I also think you are arrogant and think way to highly of yourself and exhibit qualities that are not normal.
Pity others on here are to wussy to call you out for who you really are.
That about sums it up.
