Not only did we have to put up with Hekia Parata’s bold faced lies that New Zealand had the resources and manpower to deal with an oil spill the size of Deepwater Horizon… we now have to put up with oil and dead animals washing up all over our beaches precisely because she was lying…
I thought it was pretty disgusting to see John Key spout rhetoric in his opening address for the 2011 election last night… particularly because he blatantly and obviously bullshitted his head off…
I don’t know the wording of the non-nuclear legislation, so do these shipments violate that legislation?
Personally I don’t have a problem with such shipments providing the proper authorities know, they are made in compliance with legislation in all of the relevant countries, and the material handling and the ships themselves comply with established best practice.
@ Trevor. The Police will not be interested in investigating if the yellowcake is used to manufacture weapons, and will say that it therefore does not violate New Zealand’s anti nuclear legislation.
Pop band The Feelers wrote the soundtrack of National’s election campaign – but they’re not willing to “stand up” and be counted among the party’s supporters.
Lead singer James Reid says the song’s use should not be taken as an endorsement of John Key or his party’s policies. “I don’t get involved in politics,” he added.
Despite John Key refusing to be a part of the actual debate, I thought the Native Affairs election kick off on Maori television was very good. Overall it was well produced and insightful, making me hopeful that this years campaigning would be worth watching…

If they were more consistent I might be able to make a case for mendacity, but the only consistency is the “if it bleeds it leads” principle.
..the cleanliness of the environment was number one..
that combined with the national voters’ disgust at the idea of asset sales..and their unable to vote labour.. will see a flood of votes coming to you..
The Greens did pretty well in the #Greenroom tonight. Of course I was only joking about Russel Norman becoming PM… Metiria Turei would do just as well

I do hope your analysis is correct, Phil. You will recall, there is humble pie riding on this I thought John was untouchable, but it seems that chinks are beginning to appear…
Simply on the basis of minimal harm, the case for voting Green is quite strong, and there are no “protest vote” opportunities available at all.
As you suiggest, its possible the biggest risk to the Green Party vote is the Green Party (and their members).
After making a big song and dance about his respect for the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, John Key resorted to childish name-calling this morning on 3 News Firstline when he referred to Phil Goff as a worm…
“…Last week, Barbara “wah-wah” Walters—thank you, Gilda Radner!—was trotted in front of ABC’s Evening News cameras to assure those familes still chowing down that the brutal, disgusting, illegal, savage beating, sodomization and execution of Libyan “dictator” Gaddafi was… understandable…
- because, he was “crazy.”
To confirm Gaddafi’s craziness, Clinton-tell-all-renegade George Stephanapoulos, filling in for the most artfully cadenced voice in Television—Diane—Kissinger-protégé–Sawyer—switches to a tape of Wah-Wah interviewing Gaddafi about 10 years earlier.
Muamar is preening in his robes, and Wah-Wah slurs point blank: “You know, a lot of Americans think you’re crazy!”
And Gaddafi laughs.
“Boy!—that laugh is chilling!” proclaims ever-boyish, perfect hairline, Georgie S.
And that’s about the essence of the insight we’re going to get from the MSM about the Transitional National Council’s public butchering of Libya’s former leader.
That and porcine Hillary Clinton snorting through her snout: “We came, we saw, he died.”
And thus, in a weird nutshell paraphrase of Caesar’s megalomaniacal description of his conquest of Gaul -
- we see the perverted logic of NATO’s bombing campaign and resources-grab that results in the death of some 50,000 Libyans -
- in order to save perhaps 1000 “rebels” at risk in Benghazi.
One week later, and there is Wah-Wah again in some advertisement for an upcoming series of interviews she will conduct with billionaires!
This is Wah-Wah’s and the MSM’S answer to Occupy Wall Street!
Visit these nice, friendly billionaires at home and show how they’re “just folks”!
And how did they make their billions?
Why, as John Houseman intoned in the old Smith Barney ad—
http://whoar.co.nz/2011/4-key-questions-about-the-future-of-occupy-wall-street-comment-whoar-what-should-the-aotearoa-occupiers-do-next/
(excerpt..)
“…After a little more than a month of explosive growth, there’s a growing sense that Occupy Wall Street is at a crossroads.
“The first phase of this movement has peaked.
And now it gets interesting,” says Kalle Lasn, editor of Adbusters, the magazine that issued the original call for a Sept. 17 protest on Wall Street.
“The original magic of some of those general assemblies is wearing a little thin in some — though not all — places.
And winter is coming.
People are wondering whether they want to hang around for three hours talking about protocol.”
With its decentralized structure, it’s impossible to predict where the Occupy movement might end up.
But we can at least identify the questions that will determine its future…”
(ed:..of course here in new zealand we are so fortunate we can take our next step at the ballot-box…
..thanks to mmp..in just a few short weeks we can support parties (mana/greens) that are demanding much of what occupy is asking for…
..mana more so than any others (hone heke tax/scrap g.s.t. etc..)
..so to my mind…a major short-term goal for the new zealand occupiers..
..should be to help those two parties achieve the best-results..
..if after the election they form into a bloc..
..they could dictate the direction/policies of the next govt..
..should that fail..and nact return..
..then it wd be back to the tents..
..with renewed vigor..
..personally..i think that should this asset-stripping/war-on-the-poor govt be returned..
..the country will explode in direct-action..
..the opposition to this wrecking of our culture/country/society will have little other choice..

We need to ensure that it isn’t John Key’s media team that determines whop will lead the country after November 26. Let’s make sure it is democratic participation, not spin, that informs our vote:
