United States President Barack Obama announced on Monday US Navy SEALs had found and killed Osama Bin Laden. They apparently located the elusive Al Qaeda leader with satellite facial recognition and launched a raid dubbed the Geronimo “E-KEA.” It is also reported that the CIA undertook four years of surveillance of the compounds courier, which led to the intelligence needed to make the raid possible.

Final days for input into draft Annual Plan
Press Release by Wellington City Council at 10:14 am, 05 May 2011
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown is urging Wellingtonians to have their say on this year’s draft Annual Plan.
About 100 submissions have been received with one week to go in the consultation period.
The Mayor says there are important issues in this year’s draft plan, which includes a proposal to increase by $1 an hour the parking meter rate in the CBD and introducing paid parking in the CBD on weekday evenings.
Other big issues the Mayor hopes the public will have their say on include:
- A proposal to save $105,000 by reducing operating hours at the Central Library – rather than close at 8.30pm on weekdays the library would close at 7pm. An information desk would also be closed and international newspapers would be provided in digital format only.
- A proposed $650,000 feasibility study on the construction and design of a new deepwater swimming pool complex at Kilbirnie – a long-term project expected to cost more than $18 million.
- An 18 per cent increase in sportsfield user charges (excluding the Berhampore Golf Course)
- A 5 per cent increase in landfill fees and household rubbish bags
- A 2.5 per cent increase in swimming pool general admissions and learn-to-swim charges
- A 6 per cent rise in burial and cremation fees.
“We need Wellingtonians to tell us whether they agree or disagree with what we have put forward,” Mayor Wade-Brown says.
“Should we increase the hourly parking rate and introduce paid parking on evenings during the week or should ratepayers shoulder the burden?
“Are the savings we are proposing the right ones in these times? Have we gone far enough or are there other opportunities for savings that we should explore?”
The closing date for submissions is next Thursday 12 May.
Copies of the 2011/12 Draft Annual Plan and a summary can be picked up:
- at the Council Service Centre at 101 Wakefield Street
- from Council libraries
- by phoning the Council on 499 4444 for a copy to be sent out.
To make a submission:
- complete the freepost submission form that is included with the 2011/12 Draft Annual Plan and summary
- go online to http://www.Wellington.govt.nz and make a submission
- email your thoughts to annual.plan@wcc.govt.nz
People can have their say in person during the oral hearings from 17-25 May.
The Council also can “come to you.” Community groups or organisations that would like a briefing on the draft plan can arrange a time by calling 803 8724.
All views will feed into the Strategy and Policy Committee’s deliberations from 16-20 June.

The capital city having its library close at 7pm on weekdays – that’s provincial service level cost accounting.

The EU and Indonesia reach a deal to track the source of wood supplied to the EU market – to end illegal logging.
Now I usually support what Idiot/Savant says at NRT, but today he got something majorly wrong:
So, unemployment has fallen marginally in the last quarter. The government is of course crowing, but its worth remembering: there are still 50,000 more people out of work than there were when National took office. And this number is expected to rise significantly next quarter, when the full effects of the Canterbury earthquake start to be felt.
The last time I looked (prior to the Feb 22 Christchurch Earthquake), the unemployment rate had increased by 187,000 since National took over. Callously National disregarded the new unemployed from Christchurch in their latest figures, stating that unemployment has actually fallen. What a load of crap!

I wonder where the NATO air cover is for those Syrians being mown down in their streets?
New Zealand has the third-highest rate of children living in single-parent homes, an OECD study says. This means nearly one in four Kiwi children are growing up in single-parent homes as more marriages break up and single women choose to enter motherhood on their own.

What is the Greens policy in regard to how we overcome our ever increasing debt and our ever dwindling sovereignty? It appears for Dr Norman’s disparaging remarks about the left http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/4957983/Russel-Norman-scorns-Mana-Party that he is quite content to sit idly by and watch the disembowelling of our nation. Debts are rocketing and our land, buildings and houses are falling into the hands of foreign economies at a frightening rate. You can ask the green leadership about this ’til you’re blue in the face and receive no answer whatever. Clearly they don’t give a damn about our obvious and undeniable continuing annihilation by the globalist elite.
The Nation on TV3 today had Switzerland born and Africa raised reporter Narelle Suisted repeatedly saying that the unemployed choose not to work because of a lifestyle choice. What a load of rubbish! Show me one beneficiary that has turned down a good job that pays more than the dole Narelle? This echos the Prime Minister’s contentious statement that beneficiaries go to food banks because of their own poor choices;

Phil, “It appears for Dr Norman’s disparaging remarks about the left”; don’t worry, he has plenty of disparaging remarks for the right too, no need to feel singled out.
In terms of debt; if you go to the Green party website, and put “debt” in the search box, you’ll get plenty of info.
