It is Christmas time. Regardless of whether we are Christians or not, this time of year is very special for most New Zealanders. It is valuable time to spend away from the rigour of work, and enjoying the company of our families and friends.
And it is time to extend goodwill to everyone – be they environmentalists, climate change deniers, tangata whenua, tangata tiriti, poor, wealthy, capitalist, neo-liberal, socialist, conservative, anarchist, recent migrants, longstanding New Zealanders, feminists, macho men, gay, bi, straight, fascists, racists, or bigots.
Oops – I can’t readily extend much goodwill to fascists, racists and bigots for very long, but this is the time of the season, so I’ll try really hard – at least for a few days – because even I have a few of them among the frog whanau.
I hope my goodwill is reciprocated – and some deep thought over the holidays and an appropriate New Year resolution is forthcoming from the fascists, racists and bigots. Oh, and maybe the climate change deniers as well.
Anyway, here’s a song I hope everyone can identify with. It’s not “Silent Night” and it’s not “Snoopy’s Christmas”, neither of which really embody the spirit of this festive season for me and many other people.
It’s the time of the season – for loving!

I presume you are referring to my comments, among others, on Kiwiblog and Whaleoil following Whale being charged with offences under the Criminal Justice Act.
For those who haven’t seen my comments, I think Whale was totally justified in outing the “musician” who got name suppression. I’m a great fan of civil disobedience when a law is stupid or is enforced stupidly.
But I also think Whale went way too far in outing the “sportsman”. That case hasn’t come to trial yet, and outing both the accused and effectively the alleged victim when they have name suppression to protect the alleged victim is not a good look.
In a rare concurrence, BB appears to agree.

They will no doubt be busy drafting odeous and pernicious legislation on local body reform etc, taking unfair advantage of those who want a well earned holiday but who will be denied a fair amount of time to put in submissions.

Please don’t forget to think of the poor kids of Gaza over the Christmass period the third big convoy that was supposed to send food to Gaza has been blockaded by the Israeli and US troops. See International Action Center.
