I worked for the Wellington Regional Council in the 1980s & there was lead and a whole lot of other crud being discharged into the Waiwhetu then. I was involved in taking water samples, but obviously not much/any progress has been made in the more than 20 years since! I find that Regional and Central Government are totally not proactive in these matters. I have been interested in and watching water quality issues for 25 years and am distressed to see numerous waterways still poluted and getting worse. GOVERNMENT, get tough on poluters!!

I'd far more worried about the hundreds of litres of radioactive material dropped in NZ water in four drops during the 50s and 60s in depths as shallow as 18 metres...

Must be pretty far around the food chain by now..
