Then they're supporting actions that undermine the Indonesian Govt! But why would they do something so dumb?

Maybe National have former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger (a NEW WORLD ORDER or ONE WORLD GOVT proponent) or others of the same ilk as their advisor(s)? Consider this statement:

If what I’m reading here is all true? Then they’re supporting actions that undermine the Indonesian Govt! But why would they do something so dumb?

But am looking forward to seeing the content of those speeches - probably all bullshit about administrative costs for Customs, compliance costs for importers, and "free" trade agreement implications, I suspect. Meanwhile, we sit back and watch indigenous forest and habitats of endangered species being destroyed so we can have some cool furniture in our backyards.

You can't get much more cost effective & sustainable than that!

Take a look at the Hansard later for the three worst speeches you are ever likely to see in your life from the National members tasked with putting up some semblance of argument to justify their opposition. Things not looking good for Russel's Government Vehicle Procurement Bill either. Russel spoke really well, but the dinner break came during the next speech from Chris Auchinvole, who indicated that Government would oppose this one too. I was intrigued to hear Chris say that having fuel efficiency standards for the Government fleet wouldn't work on the West Coast where he and I both live, because of the difficulty of the terrain. Comes as a surprise to me: my 1500cc Corolla hasn't yet encountered a road on the Coast it couldn't handle. And what's more the Bill already provides for vehicles needing to be fit for purpose. Seems like not that great a day for rational debate. Let's remember that the Government's shameful actions in voting these bills down at first reading prevents any possibility of public say or scrutiny by select committee.
