It is World Environment Day.
Action on climate change is a big part of what the Green Party does every day, but to mark June 5, Sue Kedgley will be at the Freeze in Wellington and Metiria Turei will be Freezing in Dunedin…and yes that isn’t hard to do in the Deep South.
The Freeze happens at 1.00 PM. For details on how to join in a Freeze near you go here.
Meanwhile Kennedy Graham will be a panellist at the Ecoexpo in Christchurch today.
This afternoon we’ll see thousands of Kiwis demonstrate that they ‘get it’ when it comes to climate change and the need for action. Eventually, the NACT government will get that we all get it and then we’ll finally get some action.
So, today, don’t just do something, stand there!

Today is also Dead Duck Day, which I’m sure will be noted by a certain former Minister for the Environment.

“So thousands of Kiwis are uninformed idiots who think the planets warming due to them….yawn….next.”
..and if I keep repeating the same mantra over and over it makes it true, right?

Today it seems timely to consider the thoughts of Thomas Berry an (among other things) environmentalist who died a few days ago at the age of 94. He had the belief that humanity was poised to shift from an anthropocentric to a biocentric view. As a mark of respect I add a snippet of his thoughts: (Source: Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology)
‘Darwin gave us the broad sweep of evolution as we are beginning to understand it. Thomas has given us a sense of our role in that process as almost no other thinker has done. We are birthed from the universe and the Earth. Through us, these processes that have created life in all its immense complexity have also given rise to a conscious form of the universe. It’s not just a poetic vision. It’s not just a spiritual connection to Earth systems and the Earth community but it’s an absolutely vital urgent moment. We now have to earn our name — Homo sapiens sapiens.’
Yes, BP et al, it has a definite religious (or more precisely, metaphysical) flavour, but that does not make it irrelevant per se.

We don’t need to do anything, just wait and let
the Obama-Retard print the US into a global civilization hyper-inflationary collapse, the resulting decrease in human population and consumption will fix the climate change problem.

The last President to try to take power from the Fed was shot. The one before him was shot. The one before HIM was impeached. I really don’t think that the phrase “don’t fight the Fed” means the same thing as the financial punters imagine it to mean.
The financial advice he is getting is from the people who made the mess. Hard to see any way anything good could come of it.

BJ –
a man after my own heart – in November ‘08 I had hope, but as the media calls and the PR hype have escalated, along with the subtly worded policy re-directions, I’m beginning to believe that this President is a less likely candidate for assassination than I previously thought, just because he seems to be continuing to bail out the usual suspects, thus there is not a lot of ‘anti’ left to have a pot-shot at him.
I s’pose I could still be wrong; but he’s still shaping up to be yet another privileged, well-educated, strongly-directed member of the upper echelons of US society, and the road to that set of adjectives does tend to strip the relatedness from a human being.
Especially seen from the outside of the electrified chain-link fence that is US Citizenship!

Also for World Environment Day, a lavishly filmed documentary on Earth’s environment by French aerial photography guru, Yann Arthus Bertrand. The film “Home” is available to view free on Youtube until 14 June.
