Well I have to say I was somewhat surprised to read that one of the first headline topics to be addressed in the National-ACT Confidence and Supply Agreement is ‘Joint Aspirations’. It seems the two parties have come to an agreement about getting higher (productivity growth) and allowing more (economic) freedom.

And a revue of the ETS!
Lets hope they do the right thing and give it the flick altogether and while they are at it they should also pull out of Kyoto.

> And a revue of the ETS
Act and National have promised to put on a comical variety show? Splendid!

Well, what else would you expect the soon-to-be Minister of Dance to demand in his coalition negotiations with the National Party?

I’ve blogged about the climate change implications over at g.blog. It seems that they are just engaging in a huge stalling exercise – another three years of doing nothing to actually address climate change while they relitigate matters that have already been addressed at Select Committee in 2007-08.

Hey BB
So we dispense with the ETS and become like california: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27697708/ ?
ETS may need changed (I don’t know as I don’t know the exact details of it) but I think it’s goals are the right direction to aim for.
The Kyoto protocol – if there are no leaders, there will never be any followers.

National-Act joint aspirations / confidence and supply agreement was predictable. It has been a long engagement, but its going to be interesting to see how key handles future conflict with the extremists on that right side. How does collective responsibility fit into their agreement?

Interesting question Goat. They are bound by the Cabinet Manual doctrine of collective responsibility insofar as the portfolios they hold are concerned, but not in other areas.
But there are other peculiarities about how the Cabinet Manual applies to them. I have blogged about this here.
