Further to the Dominion Post expose that John Key spent over $200,000 on chauffered limos last financial year comes shocking news that Russel may have spent anywhere up to $99 a month on his bus fares from home to work. This could be something for his upcoming line by line review of public expenditure?

Perhaps Green focus must now be on finding a way to get into the public forum what will happen without RMA and other environmental protections? I agree with tweaking it but not doing away with it.
Hide and National have made it clear that “the economy” is the number one focus and “growth”. What that appears to mean is a move away from triple bottom line to single bottom line.
Cannot the Greens find archive footage, facts about how industry and business treated the environment when they were left to their own conscience and values? My memory is toxic spills, pumping crap into waterways… is it really moving to a brighter future to go back to single bottom line startegum?

Hang on a second; while it is fair to comment on Russel Norman and his bus fare, consider what sort of trips that John Key was making; he was going all over the country to various places both rural and urban.
Furthermore, what about security issues? Norman needs to worry less about security because of the Greens being a small party than would Key, as the Leader of the Opposition.

Will it be ok if he speeds to get to public functions appointments? The pertinent point is not Key vs Russel but Key versus bureaucratic and all waste.

then why bother with a Key did this and Russell did that post? Seems there’s a bit of a dispute about relevance here.
I thought it was a good laugh myself. But someone tell me, does Russell live full time in Wellington?

merlinnz – I don’t think they are going to need to worry about it – the next 3 years will be a demo of what will happen without it when Rodney takes it away.

yeah right, I can’t see ministerial limos being a spending item that gets cut by key n hide.

If Russel needs some help automating “his upcoming line by line review of public expenditure”, please drop me a line.
We could programmatically screen-scrape the post-award notifications off the Government Electronic Tenders Service website, and pop the information in a database.
Once in a database we could then show expenditure aggregated by purchaser organisation, and by successful supplier. Also we could look for trademarks in the tender notices. When company brand names are specified in procurement documents this effectively prevents competition from alternative products.

Y’know, on the difference between Keys’ limo costs, & Russ’ monthly bus ticket, maybe we could budget-hop him a refund, & put it towards another house in Thorndon, then he’d save even more bus fares monthly, and it’d pay for itself in no time …
Jeanette could teach him the walk to work, and I’m sure exchanging Eastern Suburbs for Thorndon wouldn’t be that bad, would it?

All of the NationalActUnited Mps could form a ‘walking bus’ to get to the beehive.
