One of the Green party principals is “Appropriate Decision-making”, and another is “Social Responsibility”. Appropriate Decision-making means that the government shouldn’t be un-necessarily involved in the lives and decision making of individuals.

Social Responsibility means that everyone should be responsible for themselves, and together we have a responsibility for everyone on earth.

The government can’t solve our problems any more than large corporations, military forces or any other bureaucracy.

The Greens agree with freedom and responsibility. We are a very liberal party in terms of personal freedoms.

The society and economy we see is a healthy ecosystem including individuals, businesses, non-profits, and appropriate government. No one sector should dominate.

I would also suggest that constant medling in the lives of people, banning, well, almost everything, treating intelligent people like they are stupid, and promoting tired old socialist policy has something to do with it also.

I was at a seminar where the MC (a university academic) said essentially “We have had all 6 green MS here to talk to us over the years, and despite how they are portrayed in the media as a group of nutters, they are actually all genuine, practical and down-to-earth people”

One of the reasons our support is not higher than it is, is because of rumour and half-truths spread by our political opponents. This is not exactly unexpected, we are after all in a political environment with other less than ethical players.

We can and will work harder to get our message out, to clean up politics and to show up political opportunists for what they are.

The thing about the Greens is that we are a welcoming and accepting party, and members come from a wide variety of backgrounds. A true cross-section of society. We accept people who agree to our principals of Ecological Wisdom, Social Responsibility, Appropriate Decision-making and Non-Violence.

The strength of the Green movement is that it includes people with socialist leanings as well as people with free market leanings. They are all people and they make a valuable contribution to the Greens, making us a strong and political force. Our diversity gives us strength, and that perhaps frightens some people. There really is no need of fear though of a group of people committed to wisdom, responsibility and non-violence.

What I do fear is the possibility that we could destroy our world through greed. The greens stand against this and work every day for the principals we believe in.

And I honestly beleive you are totally wrong, If Kevin Hague can’t manage a hospital he certainly can’t manage a country, and he is just one of many greens from a similar position.
I know alot of people with an environmental conscience that will not vote green due to the not so hidden socialist agenda. The green wrapper on the NZ communist party is begining to fade, it is only a matter of time before a more grass roots green movement starts in NZ and the green party will become irrelevent.
Unless of course you shed the radicals and embrace true sustainability.

The greens deserve to get the most votes, and lead the government. We are the political party with an eye on the future and the critical environmental issues our world faces. We also are care for people. We’re concerned for the well-being and survival for everyone in our communities, not just the rich or privileged.

So it doesn’t look like we’ll get more votes than Labour or National this election, but it will happen in the future. Labour will likely see a falling vote as our vote grows. Other parties will likely loose support in the same way as Labour. Why should we be unhappy with that? We are willing to show the leadership our country needs, while other parties either fudge it (Labour) or head in the opposite direction (National).

The Greens are ready for the task, and NZ voters who are genuinely concerned for our environment and our communities can make a genuine contribution by party voting green. Every vote will strengthen our position, and a strong Green position will mean real protection for people and the environment in the next government.
