This morning’s Breakfast TV interview between Paul Henry and Russel was hilarious and well worth a watch if you haven’t already seen it. And it’s also a nice summary of the Green campaign so far.
Incidentally the discussion on shower pressure reminded me that this debate is illustrative of one of the (many) differences between Labour and the Green. When challenged with he false right wing meme that the Government and the Greens were invading people’s bathrooms to turn down the pressure and consign them to dribbly, weak showers Jeanette and Russel responded by arguing from a point of principle and explaining what the policy actually would have meant. Shane Jones beat a quick retreat and chose the path of least resistance rather than the option best for water and energy conservation.

Russel was actually looking vaguely at ease for once too…

Yeah, enjoyed the interview. Particularly the “closet V8″ lover question.
But, the cat is out of the bag and wont go back in. The Energy conservation policy is a six litre shower policy, best get used to it. Thats the perception, and media hacks are going to continue to portray it that way. That fact it is well less than the whole truth is irrelevant – its true enough, and for a hack out to score a point – that is all it needs to be.

Yep, looking more relaxed.
Lets see more of the “knowing lots about economics” being demonstrated. And Henry puts his finger on your fundamental problem: “everyone wants a little bit of green, but they don’t want you running the country”.
I’d add they also don’t want authoritarian far-left….

“I’d add they also don’t want authoritarian far-left….”
with most parties falling over themselves to be less tolerant (or should that be tolerent) on crime it’s funny the greens get called authoritarian. most of the policies cited to back this claim are hugely misrepresented.
“and Henry puts his finger on your fundamental problem”
I don’t want that hack putting his finger on my fundamental anything

Violent crime requires authoritarian treatment. What do you suggest in response? A morris dance?
Meanwhile, you want to get all authoritarian about my shower…
It’s none of your business.

Blue Peter:”Meanwhile, you want to get all authoritarian about my shower… It’s none of your business.”
Well your indulgance & that of 100,000′s of other Kiwis means more power has to be generated and that is a cost to ……. o why bother trying to explain to ‘unaware’ cretins who constantly bombard this [& other blogs] with their right-wing inspired krap. But its only becasue they have not got any credible positve stuff to champion on behalf of the hollowmen.
One day [when it's too late] you and your kind will wake up. I only hope you don’t have children and one day have to explain why you did not do something positive and constructive to leave the world in a better place for them. I actually feel sorry for you.

You “the-end-is-nigh” people really are hilarious.
I’ll explain to my grandchildren that one of the central problems of Marxist theory was that if fails to appreciate mans ability to innovate.

As I will be explaining to MY grandchildren that the reason the world is falling to crap around them is that the problem with Capitalist theory is that it fails to appreciate the limits imposed by the laws of thermodynamics.
Which I might point out, nobody in history has EVER innovated a way around.
Put a price on the commons.
The results will TELL you what the limits are to “growth”. When you resist (as you ALWAYS do) because it will “damage growth” YOU are ignoring the market and restraining the action of the invisible hand.

Not really. I have no idea what the future will bring.
But some people seem really, really, really certain…..
Religious in their conviction, almost….

“if[sic] fails to appreciate mans ability to innovate.”
banking on technological advances to solve impending problems is about as smart as factoring winning lotto next week into my budget today. it will be great if tech fixes come along but given that many have arrived already and are actively obstructed by powerful groups with vested interests in the status quo
