Oscar is about to get grouchy

This guy probably has a lot to be grumpy about with the passage of the Green’s fifth private members bill into law.  The almost universally supported Waste Minimisation Act will reduce the amount of trash that we’ll see in land-fills and leave poor Oscar with less of that stuff he wouldn’t trade for gold.

I found the video at Celsias, which notes:

“Sesame Street” icon Oscar the Grouch turned green in 1970 (his original color was orange). This is his theme song, “I Love Trash”, penned by the immortal Jeff Moss (who also wrote “Rubber Ducky”).

I never knew he was orange!

Maybe this happens more than i’m aware of, but congratulations on passing a bill that was “supported by all parties in Parliament when it passed its third reading today.” (why did you say “almost”?). You also got total support for the Mothers with Babies in Prison Bill or whatever it was called!

I’m curious about Nicky Wagner’s comment:

“We wanted to reward people and companies who minimise their waste, and penalise those that don’t.”

Is there a ‘reward’ component to the Bill, or was that just a generalisation? Bodes well for future ‘eco-tax’ ideas…

I prefer the version where the word Trash is bleeped.

I have put out TWO Council rubbish bags for collection in the last year.

Everything else is either not procured in the first place (by far the best way to reduce waste) or is reused, recycled or composted.

It takes a bit of work and organization … and time (which is made available by not spending it buying too much stuff!)

Oh yes! Adding to the previous post …

I do have small “stockpiles” of certain items, waiting for them to be included in the City Council’s /etc recycling schemes.
