There’s a whole bunch of South Shore Aucklanders on bikes who want to hang out with a whole bunch of North Shore Aucklanders but they can’t because there’s a small tract of water in the way and they are not allowed to pedal or walk across the bridge spanning the Waitamata Harbour.
So at 2 pm on Sunday, the day before Car Free Day, The crowd from Get Across are organising a group photo shoot in the park below the entrance to the Harbour Bridge at the Auckland City end (access from Curren Street or Westhaven Drive).
Presumably the photo will be of them looking forlornly across at the stranded North Shorians on the other side.
But, here’s the best bit. If you want to participate in the photo-shoot bike hire company Nextbike will let you ride to the photo for free on a nextbike if you haven’t used one of their bikes before. They are giving away 1 hour of riding away for anyone that registers online in the week leading up to the photo.
Well if I cycled across the bridge I’d then go anywhere other than the skytower, but the sentiment’s right.

It’s the former that has peaked / is at the peak now.
Expect the price to cycle up and down for the next 20 years as recessions kill off demand leading to price cuts before economic recovery leads to increased demand and prices rising again.
One commentator I read likened peak oil to an economic tsunami with wave after wave of recession and recovery, each recession worst than the previous.

There is a solution to that problem. Your South Shore Aucklanders can cycle from Curran Street through to the Ferry Building, and use the ferry to get to the North Shore. You can then cycle from Devonport to meet up with the North Shore Aucklanders.
