We’ll have to find something else to watch next month

It’s getting to be half week old news now. But, just to show the Greens are not into stopping all sporting tours, here’s the Green spokesperson on sports, Keith calling for more cricket. Go Keith.

“Pulling out [of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan] now would badly dent New Zealand’s good reputation in Pakistan, and cannot be justified on security grounds,” Mr Locke said.

“New Zealand Cricket should not be panicked by the suicide bombings in Pakistan this week. The danger of anything happening to our cricketers is minimal.”

Nevertheless the Champions Trophy has been postponed. You can’t win ‘em all.

Meanwhile, Rodney presents a tape to TV3, and the Whinny scandal continues.

Will the Greens be part of any government Whinny is part of?

What say you, party of principle?

    Frog

Your post MUST be in jest

Would Keith be keen on us making a good will tour of Iraq or Afghanistan then?

I can just imagine the rage if NZC announced they were going to play a ODI series in the USA.

I would question exactly what Keith knows about the security situation in Pakistan.

There would seem to be some fundamental differences between the US and say, Zimbabwe big bro, not least of all being that sport is basically free from politics over there, often being just another private enterprise and all that. People aren’t starving or getting their ballot boxes rigged, or attacking police batons with their heads for trying to vote. Can’t imagine anyone giving a toss about going to the US, certainly not Keith.

There was an article about organising a Bledisloe match in Denver in the next year or two on Stuff yesterday though…

Keith reportedly has information from Greens in Pakistan. After all, Green is a global movement, so (for the cynics who argue that country is entirely populated by Islamo-fascists) there will be some Greens there, and Keith as the NZ Green Foreign Affairs spokesperson will be in contact with them.

Keith also said: “Our cricketers face a much greater danger from Pakistan’s fast bowlers than any bombers.”

I’m not sure he is aware that Mohammad Asif has been banned as a drug cheat. Keith’s knowledge of international politics may well be better than his knowledge of cricket, because with that player of dubious credentials out of the way, Pakistan is a much weeker team.

I see. Well that’s interesting, but I think formal (on the ground) ICC investigations trump anecdotal (on the ground) reports…

    Umm Keith comments please

So long as they aren’t staying at the Marriott….

  9. big bro Says:

Poor old Keith, first Pol Pot and now the “more danger facing fast bowlers” comment.

One day he might work out that the causes he supports are wrong, one day he may work out that terrorists are not going to spare him just because he hates the USA.

    Poor old Keith

I think it is called Foot in Mouth Disease

the Soviets called them “Useful idiots”

sums him up nicely I think
