Open Green Map: Social Mapping

Some days I would rather just surf than spend time posting. Like today, when there is a southerly winter  gale building and it’s just a bit too uncomfortable for outdoor pursuits. My first port of call is often EcoGeek, in search of the latest new toy or idea to save the world.

Today the Geek is highlighting something old, which is about to become something new. Since 1995, students around the world have been mapping all the best green places to hang out, visit or spend your money - in dozens of countries. they would sell these maps to tourists who want to green their travel experience. Now, they’re about to put it all online at the Open Green Map.

For the tourist with the latest in communications toys, many destinations will become a lot friendlier becasue the locals will have marked all the cool and sustainable spots with universal icons. I look forward to the launch in September!
