Advertising and PR company media360 is featuring the Greens’ Some Things are Bigger than Politics video on its selection of successful viral videos:
The Green Party are definitely adopting a community approach to campaigning over the internet (as opposed to the main parties more obvious approaches). Here is an example of how they are using viral video to promote the big issues.
Personally I wouldn’t go that far – all political parties are trying to differing extents to incorporate the internet into their campaigning strategy, but its nice to see our community focus recognised.
360 Media also features this other viral video, which I saw a week ago and have been looking for an excuse to post ever since, but sadly it’s mostly irrelevant!

No post on viral videos would be complete without a link to “The Gamble” by The Family Party, the most popular viral NZ political video at present, with well over twice as many views as the Green’s video. Well worth a look.

i urge people to go and watch that ‘gamble’ video..
it is feckin hilarious..!
..and as ‘camp’ as..(slicked-down deputy-destiny-dude..in leather..!..whoar..!..)
it is shot in a style that is a hybrid of ‘cops’/'americas’ most-wanted’..
(which lifts the whole ‘camp’ thing to a new level..
remember..!..this is the family party..!..)
and what does it say..?..this (inadvertantly) homo-erotic pitch for your vote..
ab-so-lute-ly nothing..!
except warning/hinting of ‘dark forces’..that can only be deterred/repelled..
..by voting for (ex-car dealer) paul adams..and (ex-whatever?) deputy-destiny-church-dude..
it’s the first ‘classic’ from this election..

It’s a whole lot slicker than “Some things are bigger than politics”, in my opinion (I hear the protesting screams of “Greens rule” already…). Heaps of good comments on YouTube, and over 8000 views and counting, which certainly says something. I think it does a good job of raising awareness that the party exists and getting people to think about who they vote for, rather than just picking between National and Labour as many voters seem to do. It may not be what you expected from The Family Party, but maybe that is because the party is not quite what you were expecting them to be…
