The Northern Advocate had a short little piece on Monday noting that cycling advocate and Civil Engineer Paul Dougherty is going to be the Green candidate for Whangarei. Paul runs a successful cycle touring business in Northland and, according to the Advocate, is known about town as ‘the bike man’:
“Never before have we needed practical solutions for climate change so urgently. Doing nothing is no longer an option.”

“Doing nothing is no longer an option”
Doing something that achieves nothing *is* doing nothing. Actually, less than nothing, because there is an opportunity cost involved.

Off-topic, but oily:
“The market is full of oil and the rising price trend is “fake and imposed,” Iran’s president said on Tuesday, partly blaming a weak U.S. dollar which he said was being pushed lower on purpose”.
Iran, the world’s fourth-largest oil exporter, has repeatedly said the market is well-supplied with crude and blames rising prices on speculation, a weak U.S. currency and geopolitical factors.
“As you know the decrease in the dollar’s value and the increase in energy prices are two sides of the same coin which are being introduced as factors behind the recent instability,” Ahmadinejad said.”

Apparently there is a lot of oil being stored in tankers at $X,000/ week, but this is heavy crude.

‘we don’t have homosexuals like in your country’ and ‘Israel’s gonna geddit!’, heh.
I spose he would have a good idea how much oil Iran really has…

“We don’t have homosexuals like in your country…”.
Isn’t that because they execute them in Iran? And listen on for his comments on women.
Sounds dad4justice would be in good company. Maybe we should club together and buy d4j a one-way ticket.

Paul is not ‘doing something that achieves nothing’ – he’s a good example of someone who has created a business in a part of the country that needs this kind of enterpreneurship without putting stress on the environment. He is creating work and income for a lot of people in Northland.

Wasn’t talking about Paul, specifically. It’s more the catchphrase: “Doing nothing is no longer an option”.
Doing something that produces real results is the aim, of course.
