The red team and the blue team, both funded by massive doses of corporate money, are battling it out in Moscow at the moment for the UEFA Champions League Cup (currently 1-1 after 88 minutes, with goals by Ronaldo and Lampard). It’s hard to imagine many of the players these days are in the game because of a burning passion for either Northern England or West London but you do get that sometimes with red and blue teams. But I do have to admit they are great old dynasties.
It left me wondering why there are so few great green dynasties in sport? Long ago there were the Canberra Raiders and the Boston Celtics. Among national teams, many of the African nations sport green shirts and the South African rugby players and Pakistani cricketers are often garbed in Green. But that’s all that springs to my mind at the moment.

If that’s the case, God certainly kept them waiting to the last minute before he bestowed his blessing upon them.

The best thing about the win this morning was that there was not one single scouse in sight!

“Like progress, football is not a life or death matter, it’s much more serious than that”

I’ll tell you what Frog, my local foopball (soccer) team, Saint Etienne, is called “Les Verts”, yes the Greens. Their heyday was in the 1970s (they won a European cup) but they still have thousands of fanatical fans. It’s actually quite frustrating. When people shout “Allez les Verts” around here they aren’t talking politics.
