BB – I’m not sure who you thought would be protesting today or for what. It is not a traditional day for anyone to protest is it? estate agents in high regard, especially those of Mr Mike Mowbray’s ilk (April 12), who dingo-like infiltrate Lyttelton for the rich pickings around our harbour scenery. [Good!]
Although The Press has done a thorough job denigrating seamens’ and watersiders’ unions, for Mowbray to equate watersiders with prostitutes is not only offensive but inaccurate.
I doubt that there is one local-based call-girl in Lyttelton, although the same could not be said ofChristchurch.
The only thing that prostitutes and watersiders had in common was the train that took both to the ships.

Fair point, it is a place that I do want to visit but I could not ever see myself being there on Anzac day.
One day soon I will visit Anzac cove and pay my own quite respects without the commercial or “concert” style circus.

I was perhaps (mainly) thinking of all the young people flocking to Galipoli Peninsula to be “in on it”. ANZAC day isn’t really presented as a remembrance day for those who served in WW2(?).

If that is your opinion then you are of course entitled to it, many of the heroes are indeed dead but many are still with us.
I am not sure that “posing” is the way I would describe the thousands who turn out to show their respect to the living AND the dead.
Not sure that the Iran /Iraq war has got anything to do with it either, today is about remembering those who fought for our country.

I think we need a sense of perspective(just looking at the level of the individual): the Iran Iraq war went on for 8? years; the Iraqis didn’t stand a show against the Americans and many were just poor shmucks sent out to fight etc, etc.

I said protest would have been dumb and mused over what it could have been about.
Of course we didn’t take the Galipoli Peninsula. It was a long time ago; my father was a POW WW2 (Japan) and he is dead. I tend to think there is a lot of modern day posing over ANZAC day. The heroes are dead.

Kind of implied someone was going to protest and they would be active Green Party members…….. and if it were it would have been dumb.. were it was what would it have been about …Afghanistan (the SAS)? Rape in war?…. Subjugation of the Tuhoe Nation (King Tama)?……. Sholam and Shipton… Thank God we took the Galipolli Peninsula to make the world safe for democracy.

BB, I plan to attend a service at my local RSA. I know many other Greens who have similar plans. If there are any protests organised, and I don’t know of any, the Green Party certainly has nothing to do with them.

Nobody will need reminding that tomorrow is Anzac day, the reason for this post is to plead with all that may be contemplating a protest that Anzac day is not the day to make your stand, while many of you may hold strong views I urge you not to voice those views on the most sacred of days.
