i can see an old chestnut here but I don’t think big gov socialists ever had a monopoly on forced blood donations by way of a great big club…

I remember that guy, he was an honest man who believed in democracy and freedom of speech.
It is interesting that if he were alive today he could be arrested for making that protest in election year.

Would the Green Party care to explain why it’s ok for Tibetans to burn down businesses owned by Han and Hui? Or to attack Han and Hui civilians simply because they are Han and Hui? Who is being drowned in blood? And who has blood on their hands?

Stephen
That’s right, it could be considered a political statement.
Somehow I cannot imagine him voting for a piece of legislation that would not allow anybody to speak out against China’s treatment of the people of Tibet.

I think you’ll find he’d be fine.

He may well be fine Stephen, after all we both know that the EFB is not going to be policed properly, those who break the law from the left will be spoken to by the police, this who break if from the right will feel the full force of the law.

And back on topic, BB:
Weasel words from John Key:
And from Helen Clark:
But good on Keith Locke and the Greens for standing up for human rights.

I might be impressed if this “concern” of Keith’s spread to other countries faced with similar issues, has he ever said anything about Zimbabwe? has he said anything about the apartheid policies of the current South African government?

Found this media release on Zimbabwe, BB, urging a boycott of their cricket team. Like you I’m a cricket lover, but I agree with him on this one too.

Leave Rod’s flag alone!
Yet again the Greens the only ones to have something useful to say about human rights abuses.
IMO the EFB would be clear on Rod being in breach if his flag was deemed to be a “political advertisement” (not a “political statement” BB, check the wording), that did not come from an authorised source. As a Green MP he has the authorised source bit covered, and it won’t top the spending cap limit either I shouldn’t think! It’s probably not going to be called a political advertisement either, as it doesn’t say “Party Vote Green” – though it should!!

I think it’d be pretty hard to argue in court that holding a Tibetan flag up is electioneering activity.
As for Big Bro’s comment that he’d be more impressed if Keith was criticising other countries as well – that’s kind of weird since Keith is usually attacked for being a crypto-communist because of some of the organisations he belonged to in his youth.
So is BB saying now that he is biased somehow because he’s criticising a communist regime? Should he confine his criticisms to fascists?

Clark’s position seems to be that she’ll critcise China if they shoot peaceful protestors, but not if the protestors loot or burn things, but on no account will she criticise China for its military occupation of Tibet in the first place. Or in other words, its OK for a tyrannical government to use violence, but not OK for those who resist it to damage property or fight the authorities.

Sam
You really should register as a third party if you are going to make statements like that about the Government.

Just watched the news with Clark and Murray McCully talking about China and Tibet. Pretty sad. I wonder if National are fronting McCully so that Key isn’t associated with supporting the Chinese crackdown.

McCully! The hollowest of the Hollow Men!
But a bit too late, because Key had already been interviewed:
Sad, but will bring votes to the Greens, because Clark didn’t do any better. Her stance won’t firm up the Labour vote – if anything, it and Key’s similarly unprincipled effort will likely move the weak National (ie anti-Labour) vote in recent polls in a Green direction.
