David Parker said that last year 586 MW of new generation was added and there is 300MW under construction:
http://theyworkforyou.co.nz/portfolios/energy/2008/feb/13/o01#18

I would like to know how much of that new generation is renewable. Also how much is despatchable (firm) generation. Finally most renewable generation is not despatchable, since the resource is available only at limited times (wind, solar, tidal, wave) and therefore has a limited capacity factor - typically around 40%, so I would like to know what the average annual output of the new generation is expected to be .

(Note that geothermal is both despatchable and renewable, and can have a capacity factor of 70-95%.)

Transpower estimate a peak North Island demand of 4734 MW and a South Island peak demand of 2400 MW, total = 7134 MW.
http://www.systemoperator.co.nz/?id=6107#contentsection20344
If this grows at 3%, we need over 200MW of additional despatchable generation each year and I'm not sure that that is happening.

What happens if the Florida and Ohio governments don't approve funding for a rerun of the Democrat primaries? Would the Dems have to chose between stumping up with the money themselves, doing a u-turn on excluding those primaries for being premature or simply accepting that there won't be a Democratic Presidential candidate in the race for the Whitehouse?

Or see my earlier comment in the same thread about the lack of an update to the SKM report:

"Back in 2003 - about 2 power crises ago - the MED commissioned a report into quick options for increasing our powr generation:
http://www.med.govt.nz/upload/24966/skm.pdf

To my surprise, I haven’t seen any updates. This still seems to be the latest information on the MED web-site:
http://www.med.govt.nz/templates/MultipageDocumentTOC____12916.aspx

I have almost no idea which of these projects have actually been done, which are being done, which are still doable, and which are no longer considered feasible and whether there are any new projects that have appeared since then."
