Safe is running a campaign to encourage us all to show a little bit more love towards pigs. Frogs have done our bit for this cause in the past. But, really, what’s to love about these pigs? They don’t exercise, many are sick or dying, they’ve got poor housing, they’re depressed, they stand about in their own faeces and urine, and some of them are even cannibals. If love is what they need, they’re hardly putting forward their best cloven foot are they? Still, there’s no accounting for some people’s taste, so if that’s your thing there’s plenty you can do to express your feelings.

I deplore the fact that NZ imports pork meat.
I shudder at the evidence that some pigs are reared/housed in small cages.
With a lifetime background of farm work & farm working friends & family I know that pigs deserve to be reared, and certainly can be reared in decent conditions.

Er, the description is not of imported pigs, it is of pigs reared in New Zealand. 60,000 sows are kept in sow crates in New Zealand, and the government has lied about the scientific evidence, ignored the Regulations Review Committee, had cosy lunch dates with the NZ Pork Board and retrospectively changed regulations in their zeal to hang on to the status quo.

I love to eat Pork.
I almost never do, as I cannot bring myself to contribute to the torture of these wonderful and yummy animals.
A pleasant life and a sudden unexpected death is what they deserve.
If you could buy free range pork like you can free range eggs, I would.
But you cannot, so I cannot, so I do not.
peace

Please Russ/Frog/Toad do something about this animal torture, you have enough influence over this govt to do a deal.
Talk to the press, get them onside and encourage them to do a few inside stories, I do not even care if you do it as a naked vote graber just bloody do it!
The Nat’s will never change the law, Labour will if you force them..come on.

If I get up on a Saturday morning and go to the Farmers market I can buy havoc pork (http://www.havocfarm.co.nz/) but I cannot buy it in any shop in my city.
I can buy free range eggs in all super markets.

kinder meat? I dont buy it – in the big picture it does not compute because either way it is still predicated on violence and taking of life unnecessarily.
i loved to eat bacon and pork too once upon a time. then my conscience said NO, and vegetarianism rang true as the way to go. that was 17 yrs ago and i guess you could say that was a religious conversion – although similar was my convesion from smoking weed to …well but thats anohter story).
Crikey, if god had meant us to eat animals, would he have created felefal, salad, chilli and pita bread? (yum!) – or hemp-seed lentil burgers – (or herb itself the sky-flier the joy giver)?
i love animals and feel so sorry for pigs-
you can worry about how politically sound your meat is, or just say no and that is a powerful thing to do and speaks volumes, and the animals know it too that you mean them no harm – I love that feeling whenver im wandering by sheep, chickens, horses or whatever- they are my friends.
If you listen to sheep baa-ing on a misty night fearful of the human stranger, in fact they are actually maa-ing – ‘Maaaa’ – ‘please dont eat me’
and funnily enough there is is in a nutshell:- ‘Ma’ chinese for cannabis -the most nutritional food source Hemp seed.
Eating meat is incompatable with kindness, common sense and conscience, but people just wont forgo the pleasure, and kid themselves it is ok til the cows come home- when actually it’s just plain WRONG
Eat meat – you die.
- whether you hold the knife or commission the butcher (think about that word for a minute…).
when my little old dog (she is often likend to a kune kune pig) dies i would consider adopting a real pig as a pet, as they are kinda cute in their own way – and intelligent too! He or she can help dispose of rubbish on the wee farmlet – a sheep to mow the lawn and a goat because they like going for walks too!

“I wonder how much the Pork Industry Board would bribe Labour not to …”
Industry groups don’t need to bribe governments, just threaten them a bit, with judicial reviews of their regulations, or with (shock horror!) their industry going out of business, or just have a cozy lunch date with officials, or arrange a few extra meetings with the minister. This shows that not only are the government totally corrupt when it comes to pressure by factory farming interests, they are cheap with it.
