Federated Farmers thinks the Resource Management Act is a pair of smelly socks:
“We are comparing the 16-year-old RMA to an old pair of socks : worn out and threadbare”
And Nandor thinks the Federated Farmers’ proposed solution is a six pack of warm, stale, flat beer:
“Under their ‘6-pack’ Federated Farmers want farmers to be ‘compensated’ for doing what every other business in New Zealand is expected to do as a matter of course – avoid and mitigate polluting the environment.”
Confused?
Here’s my simile; I’m thinking the RMA, it’s somewhat like Maud Island – it’s a useful line of defence for frogs trying to live a peaceful life away from the worst excesses of unplanned development. Let’s have your suggested metaphors for describing the RMA.

RMA – a bulwark against concretisation.

The RMA is like almost all bureacracy a form of redistribution of wealth. It allows people to legally bribe officials until they get to do want they want to do anyway and the only other condition is that lawyers get to make a lot of money.
