Today is Set Net Ban Day of Action – there are some actions underway as we speak. Protestors were grouping at Oriental Bay first thing this morning, heading towards Parliament at 1pm, and plan to get as many signatures as possible en route. From there they’ll head to the Ministry of Fisheries building and then to Vic Uni.

A recent Ian Wishart speech, titled ‘Darkness at the Edge of Town: the looming threats to our culture, beliefs and civilisations’, is described by Challenge Weekly as “a relatively mild delivery from one who has become known in some circles as a ‘stirrer’.”
[snips]

Mr Wishart spoke at the VisionNetwork AGM and fifth birthday celebration last week.

“I’m reminded constantly of the saying: Better to be a fool for God than wise among men,? said Mr Wishart.“Investigate doesn’t set out to offend anyone, but we tell the stories that God wants us to tell,? he said. “It has always been God’s timing – for instance when we did our story on the Government stance on Iraq, just as it became known [but unbeknown to us] that Air New Zealand had been flying Australian troops to Iraq.?

Mr Wishart took a swipe at Planned Parenthood and its New Zealand affiliate Family Planning, which he said had a social agenda to change the ratios of racial mix through family planning. “This went badly wrong as the white population reduced dramatically,? he said. “Our culture is at the cross roads. Some societies are breeding themselves out of existence. Our role in the Church is to wake up and see the signs of the times.?

A second bad influence has been the doctrines of Carl Marx [sic], he said. These had filtered through into our education system in policies which crush faith and belief and the moral cohesion that they bring. “The Communists [whose doctrines were based on Marx’ works] have never won a war,? he said. “They have won territories by using ideas. We need to stop being frogs in increasingly hot water and stand up and say ‘This is wrong’.

“This is the time to be a confident evangelist,? he said. “We need to know the answers. There isn’t a question that hasn’t been asked. With climate change, increasing demand for oil, land and water, our Earth is becoming unstable. Only Christ can sort this out.?

Not sure about others, but Frog reckons the suggestion that Family Planning is working on the genocide of the ‘white population’ and that only higher powers can fix climate change and global instability shouldn’t qualify as ‘mild’!

Is peak oil a guy thing?

Whenever I am at gatherings involving peak oil, I am always struck by the imbalance between men and women…

[from the Comments section]
Women are absent in peak oil groups because the idea that some day, stuff will run out and we’ll have to make do is news only to men.

In our various cultures where women run the household, the idea of finite resources is in the “Duh” category.

Now that the taser trial has ended, perhaps the police could push for arming themselves ahead of election season? This is how they deal with queries to politicos in Florida.
(Warning: some may (should?) find this footage disturbing. It’s actually easier to take than this footage of a similar incident late last year, which goes to show the importance of carrying student ID to the library at all times.)

Mister Colbert’s take on it here. Naomi Wolf’s here. Apparently, it has become an internet zeitgeist moment, and it shouldn’t be long before www.dontazemebro.co.nz is snapped up.

The taser seems to be an integral part of dealing with autistic young people and the disabled in the good ol’ USA.
