If you’ve got the stomach for it….
check out some of the gruesome stuff on the cat and dog fur trade.
Sue’s release is here.
If anyone wants to ever shut the eyes without nightmare images rearing up on the retina, then DO NOT dwell on these pages, and certainly don’t look at the videos…
This article is particularly infuriating - not only is it wrong (”Several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United States, have already banned the import or sale of cat and dog fur on their markets.” Oops, except not NZ, or at least it’s news to MAF and Customs!) but it’s in the ‘Oddstuff’ section, like it’s funny and quirky and stuff!
Obviously there are questions about whether is ‘fair’ to get extra upset about puppies and kitties just cos of their big eyes and status as companion animals. But we aren’t advocating slaughtering minks, artic foxes or any other beings. And while there is a lot of awful stuff inflicted on all sorts of animals all around the world, some of these practices seem to be especially harrowing and cruel.

I could not even cope with the few images on TVOne today. Revolting trade.
I want NZ to stand very strong against this fur trade. Joy.

I worked at a freeing works for a while. The most horrible thing is saw was an escaped sheep (they had to let one “wake up” after a stun before the hal al kill to prove they were still alive), run down the chain with its (being dismembered) mates. Also saw a yard man in the beef tormenting animals with his proder.

The Government has no intention of introducing a capital gains tax. “We have never considered it,” Prime Minister Helen Clark said on Monday. “There’s no political will to do it.”
didn’t stop them bankrolling the anti-smacking bill.
I think the ravings in the Property Riches from Real Estate type books say it all…… Case closed.

Have a read of Gial Einitz’ expose of slaughterhouses in the US if you can stand it. They are full of corruption, greed, sadism, and the most hideous forms of negligent and deliberate cruelty to both the human workers and the animals. I am not so Anti-American as to believe this only goes on in the Land of the Free. New Zealand is even more dependent on dead animals and keeping up a high line speed than the US, so it is likely that the slaughterhouses here are as bad or worse.
I note that the ACC levies for slaughterhouse workers here are one of the highest, even compared with SCUBA divers, jockeys and forestry workers.
