Geldof vs Gore
Some serious division in the ranks here people, as Sir Bob issues grumpy rant slagging off Al Gore’s Live Earth Concerts.
He appears to be cross that Gore hasn’t actually solved the whole global warming thingymajiggy, that Madonna and Cold Play are performing at all (tend to agree there Bob) and that the branding is not distinct enough between his saving-the-world gigs (Live Eight) and Al’s (Live Earth).
I only wish I could be as optimistic as Geldof when he says:
“I hope they’re a success. But why is Gore actually organising them? To make us aware of the greenhouse effect? Everybody’s known about that problem for years. We are all f***ing conscious of global warming.”
Gee, that’s funny, I thought we were some way off consensus.
Half of Parliament has only even acknowledged that it’s not an evil left wing scam in the last couple of months (and now they never seem to stop squabbling over who is ‘greener’), the former leader of the Opposition was loud and proud as a climate change skeptic, and the new one has only recently had an epiphany. Check out some of the angry responses to the suggestion that the documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, may be, um, open to criticsm.
Frog’s in total agreement with Sir Bob that it would be waaaaay cooler if Al Gore could “…go on stage and announce concrete environmental measures from the American presidential candidates, Congress or major corporations.”
But in the meantime, it’s not quite as easy as ‘Bob’s yer uncle’.

To some extent they are really opponents and I think that Geldoff subconsciously recognizes this… Gore wants to save the planet for human civilization (whenever that finally arrives), while Geldoff is interested in saving people.

Don’t think there’s division in the ranks, folks. This is division among the self-proclaimed field marshalls. Geldoff has pretty much abandoned the people for the lure of elite status (failed as a punk, try humanitarianism). His $695+GSt speaking engagement in Auckland last year was evidence of that:

Those who pine for heroic leadership would do well to read 1812: Napoleon’s Fatal March on Moscow by Adam Zamoyski, an amazing depiction of how elites will indulge their egotism, backstabbing and personal vendettas even in the face of a massive threat to their own interests. Cooperation seems to be alien to the ruling class.

I have no doubt the Greens will continue to keep Labour in power.
Regrettably..
