The Queensland Greens have posted a record 8 percent of first preference votes in the state’s election on Saturday (up from 6.76 in 2004). Great to see fellow Greens doing well at the ballot box, and just another sign that the general public are increasingly tuning into “Green” issues. Of course an unpopular and foolish dam project being advanced by the Labor Government helped too.

Just curious, how are the various Green parties around the world poling?
How does it compare with Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand

The New Zealand Greens generally poll quite well, as you can see here 9 seats out of 121 on the latest TNS/ 3 News poll roughly = 7.5%. In NZ, this equates to more seats than all other minor parties combined, and NZ Greens are also the only ones to cross the all important 5%.
However, as I’ve said before, the one time NZ Green polls badly is when it most matters … election time. In the last election, the Greens missed out badly by failing to make Labour voters understand that a party vote for the Greens would have worked in Labour’s favour, not counter.
Whether they fail to achieve this in the next election remains to be seen, but it might not be an issue, because the Nats are going all out to green themselves. While this in itself lacks any degree of credibility, the fact remains that it reflects a greenification across the political spectrum.
National are more likely to win the next election than any of the last the 3, and so question is: how interested are the Greens in currying favour with them? And supplementary Q: given the total f***ing the Greens got from Clark at the last election, how much do they trust them at this point?
