What will change if Greens become Cabinet Ministers? Well, one thing is that they’ll want smaller, more fuel-efficient ministerial vehicles than the current fleet – that is, cars which don’t guzzle as much gas. There’s a cute little story in the Sunday Star-Times about this (offline):
Green Party co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons, who drives a highly fuel efficient Honda Jazz, said cars with smaller and more efficient engines were perfectly adequate for ministerial purposes and should be introduced as existing cars are retired.
“You do not sacrifice safety, control or comfort and I think it would be a good example. We just have to wean people off this idea that their status in life is reflected by driving a big car.”

on the trolls and those who are unable to keep on topic
i’m glad jeanette got rid of that dunger she was thundering around in for years…..
(and now we have even more reasons to sneer at those phallo-inadequate tossers in their hummer wannabes..eh..?…their fill-er-up bill..cor..!)
but what government ministers and mps should have are i-units…(we could fit little screens so the poor luvvies don’t get damp…)
can’t you just see them buzzing around..in either the upright or prone position..(depending on their individual needs..)

And my firm belief that everyone in the Green caucus eschewed cars and travelled via public transport has been shattered =)

um..edge..i was travelling in a bus once in wellington with the dreadlocked one…and a little old lady came up and told him that in blah blah numbers of years of using wellington public transport she had never seen an mp on a bus before…and that she would like to shake his hand..which she duely did..and then trotted back up to the front of the bus…to the bemusement of the driver and the other passengers..it was a case of grins all around..and a lovely moment…
it’s a start..eh..?
