Boy, Winston Peters must be starting to get worried. We now have two polls putting him well behind in Tauranga. I have no doubt he’ll make it back into Parliament – as I’d be astonished if NZ First didn’t make the 5 percent threshold. However, if he lost his seat of Tauranga in the process, he would increasingly be seen by the media as in the twilight of his career, having lost his political instincts and charm. He could no longer use his interminable line that he’s “happy being the member for Tauranga”. This may well be Winston’s last term in Parliament and, unless Don or Helen are absolutely forced to deal with them, he’ll be spending it on the Opposition benches. His descent into bitter and twisted old man syndrome (cf. Mike Moore) may well have already begun.

sheesh frog..you’re going positively feral(you had a vaguely hippyish/nice speak, about you when you started on this blogging gig..now look what’s happened..you’re going all bitter and twisted on us….shedding that vague kermity-feel and taking on cane-toad-like qualities…).
…..talk about putting the proverbial webbed foot in……..

Are you guys comfortable with endorsing victory at any cost? Should not all candidates be on an even playing field?
Well have you read this.
“Peters’ Tauranga rival faces budget probe”
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=1&ObjectID=10343941
Mr Peters said. “I’m confident in the people of Tauranga and their sense of fair play. They know there’s a lot of outside influence being thrown in here to get rid of me.”
Come on Frog where is you sense of fair play here? How about you look a little harder at the Tauranga race?

c’mon toa..it’s called politics..and there is an election campaign on…
this is a possible example of strategic voting under mmp..
and i’d be surprised if peters gives the nod to national in his upcoming preference speech..
if for no other reason he has to try and woo back those former labour voters who have bailed because peters’ has successfully been painted into the rightwing corner…he has two weeks to get them back…
there’s that..and clarkson..and a claim to centreist qualities/credibility that would be forever lost if peters went with national after successfully railing against their tax bribes…and that clark said she’d rather deal with nz first than the maori party left that door ajar for him..
for all these reasons i think peters will lean to labour…especially in light of his arguments against nationals’ radical rightwing ideologies/policies…
