I should have realised this earlier: Metiria says that the Maori electoral option that occurs with each census gives us an indication of support within Maoridom for the existence of the seats; that that option is the referendum on whether the seats ought to be kept.
There is some sense to this, and I’m intrigued where it takes us, because last time I checked (about 10 minutes ago on http://www.elections.org.nz) more Maori were on the general roll than the Maori roll. Knowing this, does Metiria, and do the greens, now support giving effect to the voice of Maoridom by abolishing the seats?
