Changing the flag to a silver fern or koru or maori independence flag or.... whatever worthy idea will not change the world in that the majority of the world have never heard of us let alone our flag. Besides haven't allblacks.com got first dibs on the silver fern? bloody marketers.

Having been through a few restructures in my working career I can vouch for the futility of it all. Hmmmm, resructure, rename, rebadge, mission statement, new business cards (throw the old ones out) new....... until the next time someone has a bright idea.

Roll on child poverty, no child diabetes, no tax cuts and a decent wage increase for people at the bottom of the scale....

why? see the reasons discussed on the NZ Flag website:
http://www.nzflag.co.nz/

personally my favourite quote that sums it all up is:

'I am doing my "big OE" in London and was recently telling my English friend, who is an intelligent guy and travelled in NZ for some months last year, that there was a campaign to change our flag. His response? "What's wrong with the silver fern? It's a great flag." And that's why we have to change it!'

Exactly, why take our history and heritage and throw it out the window?

It doesn't have to be apathy. It could simply mean people do not support the idea. Like Scott said, there are more important things to take care of.

I'd far rather deal with child poverty than waste energy on a piece of material. Besides, if Gnats got in it would probably have the stars and stripes in the corner instead of the Union Jack. p-)
