Dumb Day
Peter Dunne’s innane quest to have Waitangi Day renamed New Zealand Day has been indulged by the Government. If the TV coverage is anything to go by, Dunne’s major reason for the move is that he’s sick of having his holiday barbeque interrupted with news of protests in Waitangi. Poor boy.
Of course, it stretches credulity to think that protests will stop because some white man in Wellington changes the word “Waitangi” to “New Zealand”. I wonder if Peter knows that just because you change the name doesn’t actually change the date the Treaty of Waitangi was signed.
